The Federalist 1776 Zinfandel is noticeably deep purple is colour. It has strong aromas and flavours of red fruits such as strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Blackberry, black plum and blueberry are also very much present in the aromas and flavours. In the making of the wine different blocks were fermented separately to preserve ideal characteristics of each. Each block spends an average of 12 days on the skins. The wine contains strong notes associated with the presence of oak; vanilla, tobacco and dark chocolate. This Zinfandel has spent 12 months aging in contact with 25% new oak. There is also a detectable note of cinnamon spice which adds another layer of complexity. This wine is extremely well balanced in terms of its tannin structure, full- body and its long smooth finish.
The Federalist 1776 Zinfandel comes from the region of Lodi. One of the most central parts of California‘s Central Valley. The whole wine-making philosophy of The Federalist is to break away from the ideals of the past, where wine was heavily regulated. So instead the priority is to make an excellent tasting wine “for the people”. From this idea, The Federalist, brought forth a range of distinctly American craft wines wrought with as much character and bold spirit as the figures that don every bottle. The Federalist wines are born from the virtues of every forward-thinking, hard-working, red-blooded American, this is The Federalist. This Is American Craft Wine.
