Tamar Ridge Riesling is medium-bodied with concentrated lemon with some lime and petrol fruit character, pure linear structure and racy acidity providing excellent length on the finish. Tamar Ridge Riesling will be delicious with shell fish, oily sea fish (smoked salmon, smoked mackerel, kipper), sauerkraut, sausages, cold white meats, sushi…. the incredible diversity of Aussie Riesling!
The fruit for Tamar Ridge Riesling is all hand harvested, from older vines in the vineyard. Whole bunch pressed. Cool slow fermentation. Riesling is most often associated with Germany, but Australian Riesling is an exciting, yet underrated wine coming from Down Under.
The best Rieslings can easily be cellared for decades. The high acidity and bright fruit characters provide the perfect framework for maturation. Over time, the primary fruit characters of lemon, lime and flowers take on richer honey nutty, toffee-like characters. High acidity aids longevity and screw caps ensure very little oxygen contact – Wine Australia.
Tasmania currently has 1,320ha of planted vineyards, which is less than 1% of Australia’s total, but the wines coming out of the island state are as stellar as any.
