Story
The Res Fortes red is produced by Moritz Bak – one of the creators behind Pull The Cork, a Swiss-born winemaker, he now sells his wines in over fifteen countries worldwide!! Moritz spent many summer months as a child with his grandfather in the South of France, who would talk for hours with great passion about wine and even let him try a little. Listening to him, Moritz’s fascination with grapes began. During the winter family ski trips, “I remember travelling on the train across Europe and seeing the Swiss Alps with terraced vineyards covered in snow. By the age of 16, I was hooked. Since then I have been passionate about making wine.” Moritz has worked in USA, South Africa, France, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, and in any well-known regions ranging from Sonoma Valley to Paarl, to Hawkes Bay, Riverland and the Mosel. Working for some of the world’s best wine producers have broadened Moritz’s understanding of the processes and techniques required to make high-quality wines from different grape varietals and volumes. Some of the well-known brands that Moritz worked on are Kendall Jackson, Dr Loosen, Orin Swift, Delagat’s – Barossa Valley Estates, Oyster Bay, Penfolds, Chateau Bauduc and Mellasat.
“In 2014 I decided it was time to use what I had learnt from all over the world and create my own premiere vintage!”
At Res Fortes, they make wines from the best quality fruit right from where they are grown, they apply modern winemaking practices and techniques and combine that with a passion for the art of winemaking. Carefully selecting the grape varietals and the regions where they grow and produce the wine, they restrict themselves to small-scale production but use a modern approach to design, quality and bottles, and natural corks, so that you can have the enjoyment of great, easy drinking wines with high quality.
The Res Fortes Red is a blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvedre, the blend consists of 30% Grenache Noir aged in Puncheons Barrels. 30% Grenache Noir tank aged, 10% tank-aged Syrah and 30% tank-aged Mourvedre.
This glorious Res Fortes red is a showcase in itself, a true dinner party-piece and is full of flavour, leaving you a period of suspense, there is tons of juicy fruit notes and a little oak is also present. It’s a fantastic wine for roast pheasant or roast chicken, it’s also the perfect BBQ wine!
Due to the demand In 2015 (the first vintage), Moritz produced more than triple in 2016 to a total of 5,600 bottles.
