Mackmyra Brukswhisky, Single Malt Whisky (70cl)
When Mackmyra opened for business in 1999 they were the only whiskey distillery in Sweden and also the most northerly one in the world. At that time their distillery was a very small-scale business using a copper boiler with a capacity of only 100 litres. It was in this pilot distillery that they developed their recipes. At the same time, the friends proved to the outside world that it is possible to create an excellent malt whisky using the ingredients and under the conditions that they have in Sweden. The Mackmyra Distillery is still a young company compared to some of its Scottish siblings. All began in 1998 when a group of eight friends went on a skiing trip. They discovered their common weakness for single malts and wondered why there is no Swedish whisky on the market. In 1999, just one year later, the first Mackmyra distillery was set up and the production of spirit started. With it, the history of Swedish whisky was initiated as well. Ever since hundreds of recipes were tried and the best were chosen to constitute the Mackmyra range.
Mackmyra Brukswhisky was first introduced to the market in 2010 and is now part of the Swedish distillery’s core range. In international markets, it’s sold as “The Swedish Whisky.” A bottle redesign in 2012 features playful sketches drawn years ago by the owners during their initial planning stages for the distillery. This whisky combines barrels of single malt in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and new Swedish oak, with a touch of smoky malt whisky.
Mackmyra Brukswhisky has a balanced character with fruits and butterscotch. The nose is clean and fresh, with light, spicy, notes of Swedish peat and juniper. Clear fruitiness with butterscotch, citrus and pear. Prominent notes are liquorice and mint. The palate is fruity and slightly smoky while the aftertaste is fruity and slightly spicy. Enjoy Brukswhisky as it is, with or without ice, on any occasion.
