The Keermont Estate Terrasse is produced in the Upper Blaauwklippen Valley, this valley can be traced back to 1694. In 2003, the Wraith family moved to the Western Cape from Gauteng and bought two adjacent farms. These two farms are now farmed as one Estate known as Keermont Vineyards.
A tight unit of nine people run Keermont Vineyards. All work, from tending the vines to packaging the bottles for the final release, is carried out by this small team to ensure that the same attention to detail is followed throughout the wines’ production. Mark Wraith lives on the farm with his wife, Monica and their four children. Mark plays an active role on the farm ranging from strategic long-term planning, right down to tending to the vines.
In the winery, Keermont aims to guide their wines through fermentation and maturation as gently and naturally as possible. Keermont believes that through this gentle process, they can capture the true essence of the fruit that they put so much effort into growing. For this reason, they allow naturally spontaneous fermentation to occur, mature the wines in seasoned oak casks, move the wine making use of gravitational flow rather than pumps, and bottle without filtration.
The Keermont Estate Terrasse is a polished light yellow gold colour, this wine has a bouquet driven by vanilla and butterscotch with undertones of peach and cut grass. Upfront fruit flavours of peach and apricot are complemented by hints of spice and green pepper as well as a touch of oak. The palate has a crunchy apple acidity which holds the wine together into a long succulent dry finish. Drink 2017-2027.
