The Santa Tresa Vino Spumante Brut is a premium quality Sicilian sparkling made from 100% Grillo grapes…move over prosecco! The estate was purchased by Stefano Girelli and his sister Marina back in 2002 with the aim of restoring the land to its former glory and to convert the estate to be a producer of high quality, authentic, certified organic wines. With the release of the 2009 vintage, this latter aim was achieved. Maintaining its traditions and respecting the indigenous flora and fauna. Growing conditions for grapes are so perfect here that they can cultivate their vines in the most natural, non-interventionist way possible. Stefano believes that by working hand in hand with nature, he will not only leave a long-standing legacy of a fully sustainable wine-growing estate, but the quality and character of the wines benefits greatly as a result.
The Santa Tresa Vino Spumante Brut is a pale straw coloured sparkling wine hints of gold. There are fine, gentle bubbles and a fresh fruity nose with hints of citrus and floral notes. On the palate, the wine is very well balanced, gentle and soft with a refreshing burst of acidity and spectacular fruity notes. This delicious wine is Ideal as an aperitif but it pairs super well with seafood, especially with shellfish.
Wine of the Week – The Independent, ‘Bored with Prosecco? Try this: made carefully and organically in Sicily from Grillo, the grape used to make the islands’ fabled Marsala sweet wine and some decent whites, this is a revelation. Dry, a very pure fruit taste and a clean, refreshing acidity. Lovely with canapés and fishy starters.‘ Terry Kirby, August 2016
