Story
Howard’s Folly Sonhador Rose is pale pink salmon in colour. A refreshing and complex wine with aromas of ripe wild forest fruits, vanilla, and raspberry jelly. The palate shows mature and intense red berry fruits with good body and texture, a vibrant acidity adding to a long and profound finish.
Howard’s Folly Sonhador Rose is handpicked and transported to the winery, bunch sorted prior to destemming and crushing with a 48 hour cold settling, and then 4 months of aging lightly on the lees. The winemaker, David Baverstock, is an Australian by nationality but long time Portuguese resident who is credited with revolutionising the Portuguese wine industry by introducing new world techniques to old world material. He has won the Portuguese Red Wine Trophy at both the 1999 and 2002 International Wine Challenges, as well as winemaker of the year (Portugal) 1999, the first non Portuguese Winemaker to do so. He is the head winemaker for the world famous Herdade do Esporão.
Quality is king at Howard’s Folly. The winery is the first urban winery in Portugal, where they use smaller tanks in order to take advantage of the higher quality fruit to make the highest quality wine. Based in the beautiful and historic town of Estremoz, Howard’s Folly have converted a heritage building into a state-of-the-art winery. [We] have contracts with many local farmers who have small plots of ancient vines producing complex, low-yielding and intense mixes of different grape varieties. We use these grapes to make super premium single vineyard wines or blends of supreme quality.
