Goru Organic is a red wine produced by the winery Ego Bodegas in Jumilla, Spain. Ego Bodegas has 25 hectares of 50-year-old vineyards with the grapes of each of the vineyards fermenting in separate steel tanks of 4,000 to 20,000-litre capacity. The boutique winery Ego Bodegas is located just a few kilometres from the historic city centre of Jumilla in Murcia, South East Spain. Proprietor – winemaker Santos Ortíz decided a little over a decade ago to create a state of the art modern winery to showcase the centuries-old native grape of the region, Monastrell, and create a range of accessible wines from other varietals such as Syrah, Petit Verdot and white grapes Muscadet and Chardonnay which surprisingly flourish in this dry and arid region.
The Ego Bodegas winemaker; Luis Javier Perez was born in 1971, “I consider myself Murcian at born and at heart with Castilian-Leonese roots. I am an oenologist by vocation, not by family tradition. My first contact with the world of wine came with my first job, after finishing the career of Technical Agricultural Engineering (1996) in a research centre. There, we started several projects with the aim of increasing our knowledge of the potential of the Monastrell variety, its cultivation, its adaptation to the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Region of Murcia and the different forms of processing to be applied to, from the same grape, obtain different wine profiles. Those days of hundreds of hours in the vineyards, together with the elaborations of the grapes obtained in a small experimental winery, convinced me that my professional career was going to be linked from then on with the vineyard and the wine. I combined this research work with the extension of my academic training, reaching the Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Technology (1998) and the Doctorate (2003) with a study on the ageing optimization of Monastrell wines in barrels. Today I assume the technical and enological direction of Egobodegas with a very clear focus. Offer wines with a strong personality that satisfy the taste of the final consumer when transmitting their history: the grape they come from, the way they are made and the typicality of the area where they are produced. The success of our work is based on knowing how to interpret the winemaking potential of a vineyard, discovering what type of wine is within each type of grape, acting as a catalyst for its transformation with minimal interactions and applying the right conditions of maturation and ageing. Goru does not contain any animal ingredient and no animal products are used in the processing/ filtration of the product. The wine is Vegan. All Ego Bodegas wine are produced only in Ego Bodegas facilities.
Goru Organic is a wine made from Monastrell, from vineyards with official organic certification. The vines are an average of 25 years old. Harvesting is performed manually and mechanically. The facilities, as well as the winemaking process, guarantee the separation of organic harvests from the conventional ones. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature so that it does not exceed 26°C. They go through maceration for around 15 days. This wine is aged in American oak barrels for 2 months. The Goru Organic is a juicy, intense and honest wine. Black cherry with purple violet aromas. It’s clean, fragrant with a bouquet of spice box, violets and blueberry. Smooth texture, with savoury red fruits, soft round tannins, well-balanced acidity and pure finish.
