Domaine Le Roc Ambulle Negrette Pet Nat 2017
The Ambulle Negrette from Domaine Le Roc which is situated between the Garonne and the Tarn at the heart of the Fronton AOC region. They produce wines with a strong character including “Negrette”, the grape variety that has become their emblem. Domaine le Roc aim to work intelligently and with respect for living things. They don’t farm under an organic label, but their agriculture is sustainably farmed and environmentally friendly. They work respectfully and with sincerity, guided by the knowledge that the land does not belong to them. The Ribes Family are responsible for the winemaking here, Jean Luc Ribes, a self-proclaimed “Bluesman” at night and viticulturist by day, is perfect for his job of harmonizing the soil and vines. He is a real pioneer in the way he uses grass. All the vines have been under grass since 1981 and in the winter there are sheep grazing on the land. The same philosophy is evident in the cellar. The grapes (Negrette, Syrah and Cabernet) are harvested when they are absolutely ripe and they are handled with particular care. Domaine le Roc’s main concern is the concentration of the wine and the length of time allotted for fermentation. You can taste it right away. The fruitiness of their wine is comparable to no other. It is authentic and generous.
“Work in good terms and in respect for the alive. Healthy, reasoned agriculture, with a respectful and sincere work.”
The soil is composed of gravel and stone. The area is generally flat, with occasional hills that create small slopes. The vineyard’s subsoil is composed of ice age deposits, topped by alluvial soil and rouget, a material very rich in iron that lends a particular flavour to the wines. The typical climate of the region is similar to that of Bordeaux: warm and dry in the summer and mild and wet in the winter.
The Ambulle Negrette Pet Nat has a nice mousse and oozes sweet cherries, raspberries and pear drops. This pet nat is dark pink and discernibly sweet.
