The Domaine du Jas d’Esclans is situated in the beautiful Provençal region and is situated on the slopes of the Esclans river valley. The soil and rocks, dating from the Permian age, clay/sandstone of red colour, give to the terroir undeniable qualities to cultivate vintages and also add a particular beauty to the setting. The pervious, stony soil, poor in humus and well drained, is particularly adapted to produce quality vintages.
The story of the Côtes de Provence “Cru Classé” wines goes back to 1895 when a group of the Var region’s wine growers realized they could better defend and promote their wines and vineyards by working in partnership. In 1947, thanks to the determination of these men and women, 23 of the Var region’s domains were selected by a commission of experts under the supervision of the INAO (Institut National des Appellations d’Origine), after thorough research into their terroir, expertise and reputation. Today, history is continuing its onward march, with 14 domains and the château now officially forming the “Club des Crus Classés des Côtes de Provence”. Their common goal is to affirm and convey the “Cru Classé” identity – this unique distinction first earned by their peers in 1955 – and gain increased recognition for this noble title and mark of excellence.
Moreover, the estate benefits from the proximity of the Mediterranean sea (12 km, the sea can be spotted from the property) and of the mistral wind which is owned by the nearby hillsides. A steady exposure to regular sunshine allows an optimum maturity of grapes. This Domaine du Jas d’Esclans Cru Classé Rosé is one very classy Provencal rosé which has real structure and depth and a delicate herbal quality. Most definitely excellent with simple shellfish dishes.
Suitable for Vegans.
