The Chateau d’Angles Grand Vin Rouge is produced by Eric Fabre. Eric Fabre’s wealth of experience, including eight years as technical director at Château Lafite Rothschild, enabled him to overcome the considerable challenges awaiting them. Restructuring the vineyard was a high priority in order to balance the assembly of traditional grape varieties such as Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache or Carignan for the reds and Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Marsanne for the whites. Each section of the 45 hectares on the estate is closely followed under the paternal eye of Eric Fabre, with real respect for the environment. Round, fresh, charming, precise, complex, structured, delicate – are all qualities of the Château d’Anglès Great Wines that reflect the values held by Eric and Christine Fabre. The Grand Vin Rouge is produced following sustainable practices according to the High Environmental Value charter (level 3) in respect for the environment and complexity of the wine: composted pomace, mulched prunings, ploughing, no insecticides and no weedkillers.
“We have settled in La Clape for the Mourvèdre: I enjoy its warm spices flavours as well as its dense and thin tannic structure. Grown in the cooler La Clape appellation, delicately vinified and thoroughly nursed, the Grand Vin reveals the elegance of the South.” Eric Fabre
The Grand Vin Rouge is a lovely deep red colour with hints of black. Complex bouquet with a blend of ripe red and black fruits, spices, liquorice and tobacco flavours highlighted by the typical minty touch of La Clape. Full-bodied and elegant mouth structured by dense and remarkably silky tannins. Great length endowed with a nice freshness. Fresh and fruity when young, gaining more complexity after 5-10 years. Potential of 15-20 years. It’s wonderful with game, red meat and sauce dishes. Try it with a serious T-bone!
“Elegant and fresh. Silky, integrated tannins… wild herbs notes. Long, mouthwatering finish.” Decanter Magazine
“Full-throated, gently-oaked blend with a strong marine accent from La Clape” Jancis Robinson
