47 Anno Domini Prosecco is named in honour of the famed Romans Emperors Claudius and Augustus for their efforts to connect the city of Venice to the planes beyond Brenner pass in 47 AD, which would secure Veneto’s role as a crucial cultural region of Italy. Brothers Christian and Andrea Tombacco are the third generation to produce wine in the Veneto, with a passion for quality only matched by the need to farm organically, and with great care for the environment and its biodiversity.
We are fully aware that the current market is awash with Prosecco. But we still felt there was room for something that was raw and stripped back. A Prosecco that has all the lovely stone fruit flavours often associated with this wine but combined with solid acidity and cooling freshness. In 47 AD wines we found just this…a wine that is for pure enjoyment and pleasure. Both these wines have the traditional ‘tappo Spago’, the cork closure with string, which symbolises their connection to old skool Veneto sparklings.
The prosecco DOC is the status of the wine from Italy official prosecco appellation. The DOC is the official prosecco appellation title and it means the designation of controlled origin.
The 47 Anno Domini Prosecco is made from 100% Glera grapes which produce a youthful straw – yellow colour, with flecks of green. Rich on the palate with vibrant, persistent bubbles and fresh orchard fruit aromas. Great balanced acidity, and crisp citrus and delicate floral characters to finish. We sampled this wine when camping, and it really broke down the strong flavours – it’s a great all-rounder!
