The wines of Emidio Pepe are probably some of the most sought after wines in the world at the moment. Founded in 1899, in Abruzzo stands at around 15 hectares of vines. The grapes are picked by hand, and treatments using synthetic chemicals are strictly avoided. Pepe uses exclusively cement tanks, rather than oak barrels. The wines are unfiltered and unfined, and sulphites are forbidden. When older bottles are decanted into new ones for sale, even this is done by hand alone – even refusing to use a funnel for fear of oxidation. The wines of Emidio Pepe are very sought-after and extremely rare.
